Custom hexagonal and special-profile punches for drawing-based piercing or forming applications, reviewed from profile geometry, workpiece data, tool interface and mating-die requirements.

Description

HEYI supplies custom hexagonal and special-profile punches for drawing-based piercing or forming applications. The working profile, tool interface, mating-die relationship, workpiece data and inspection method should be confirmed before manufacture.

Where are special-profile punches used?

A special-profile punch is considered when a standard round punch cannot produce the required hole, cutout or formed feature. The product images show examples of non-round punch geometries; they do not represent a fixed standard size series.

Each request should identify the actual operation and the mating tooling. A piercing application and a forming application can require different working-end geometry, clearance, support and inspection criteria.

Information required for engineering review

  • 2D or 3D drawing, drawing revision and the critical dimensions
  • Required profile, including across-flats or across-corners dimensions, angles, radii and corner conditions
  • Working length, overall length, shank geometry, locating features and holder or retainer interface
  • Operation type, such as piercing or forming, and the intended feature in the finished part
  • Workpiece material, material condition and thickness
  • Mating-die drawing, specified clearance or existing-tool information when available
  • Machine or press constraints, alignment method and available installation space
  • Order quantity, inspection requirements and any current failure or quality issue

Profile, clearance and inspection

For a hexagonal or other polygonal profile, state how the feature is dimensioned and which corners, flats or angles are critical. A photograph can support identification, but it is not a substitute for the drawing, datum definition and acceptance criteria.

Punch-to-die clearance and working-end details depend on the workpiece, material thickness and operation. They should be supplied in the tooling specification or reviewed with the mating-die information rather than assumed from a catalogue image.

Questions buyers usually ask

Can HEYI make a punch to a customer drawing?

Drawing-based review is available for hexagonal and other special profiles. Please include the complete working-end geometry, shank or mounting interface, material being processed, mating-die information and inspection requirements.

Is a sample or photograph enough for quotation?

A sample or photograph is useful for initial identification, but critical dimensions, datums, tolerances and the intended operation still need to be confirmed. If an existing punch is being replaced, provide its drawing or a measurable sample together with the reason for replacement.

Can material or surface treatment be recommended?

Any recommendation depends on the workpiece, thickness, operation, contact conditions, tooling interface and production requirements. These details should be reviewed before a punch material or surface treatment is specified; no universal tool-life result is assumed.
