Single-crystal diamond micro tools are considered for ultra-precision cutting where a very fine edge, small features and controlled surface generation are required. The final tool geometry must match the workpiece material, machining method and drawing rather than being selected by tool material alone.

  • Micro-grooves, profiles and other fine-detail features
  • Ultra-precision turning, grooving or profiling of compatible non-ferrous materials
  • Selected optical, polymer and electronic precision components
  • Finishing operations where edge condition and machine stability are important

What determines the tool design?

  • Workpiece material, grade, coating and any abrasive fillers
  • Feature size, profile, nose radius and required edge form
  • Rake angle, clearance, cutting direction and access around the feature
  • Machine rigidity, spindle condition, runout and workholding
  • Target surface condition and the current machining problem

Important material boundary: diamond is not the default choice for ferrous steels. For hardened steel, cast iron or an unstable interrupted cut, CBN or carbide may be a more appropriate starting point after application review.

Factory preparation and inspection

Depending on the design, tool preparation can include slotting or flute generation, edge preparation and sharpening, precision grinding, magnified inspection, and a review for repair or reconditioning. These steps are completed in the factory, and the exact route depends on the tool geometry and application.

Questions buyers usually ask

Can one geometry cover every micro-machining application?

No. Material behavior, feature shape, cutting direction and machine condition can change the required crystal orientation and edge geometry.

What information is needed for a tool review?

Please provide the drawing or 3D model, workpiece material, operation, feature size, target surface requirement, machine or holder details, and any photos of the current result.

Can a used diamond micro tool be reconditioned?

It depends on the remaining material, edge damage and whether the original geometry can be restored without changing the required feature. HEYI can review the used tool or clear photographs before confirming a route.
