Description
Brazed CBN tools use a CBN cutting segment joined to a supporting tool body or insert. They are considered for finishing and selected semi-finishing of hardened steel, cast iron and selected sintered ferrous materials when the cutting edge and tool construction match the operation.

- Hardened steel gears, shafts, bearing surfaces and die or mold features
- Gray cast iron and selected brake or transmission components
- Selected iron-based sintered materials after the material condition is confirmed
- Turning, grooving or other operations that can be supported by a brazed CBN edge

- Workpiece material, hardness, heat treatment and surface condition
- Continuous or interrupted cutting and the interruption severity
- Finishing allowance, depth of cut, feed and cutting speed
- Insert or tool geometry, edge chamfer or hone, and holder support
- Machine rigidity, coolant strategy and the current wear or failure mode

Questions buyers usually ask
Is brazed CBN suitable for every hardened-steel operation?
No. Hardness, interruption level, allowance and edge support determine whether a brazed CBN tool, another CBN construction or carbide is the better starting point.
Can a brazed CBN tool be used on cast iron?
It can be considered for selected cast-iron applications, but the cast-iron grade, inclusions, interruption and desired operation need to be reviewed.
